Terms of Use

These conditions govern every visit, search, and use of Wayne County Criminal History. Continuing past this notice means you accept all terms below. Do not use the website if you disagree with any condition.

NO FCRA USE. This private website has no connection to a federal, state, or local government office. It and its advertising partners do not provide tools for employment, credit, insurance, tenant, or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The resource points visitors toward Wayne County and New York record custodians. It is neither a consumer reporting agency nor a private investigation service.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site, operated independently from government. It does not keep official criminal files, conduct government background checks, retrieve records, or submit documents for a visitor.

Its function is to identify custodians, including Wayne County courts and the Sheriff, DCJS, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Some pages also connect to search tools supplied by outside companies.

2. Rules for Using This Site

By using the site, you agree not to:

  • Use automated scrapers, bots, or similar collection tools against these pages
  • Interfere with site performance or another visitor’s access
  • Attempt unauthorized entry into any account, system, or protected area
  • Use content for employment, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Harass, threaten, or stalk any person with information found here
  • Violate any applicable federal, New York, or local law

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No information obtained here or from a linked tool may be used to intimidate, stalk, threaten, harass, or discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may also be criminal. New York places specific limits on misuse of New York State Sex Offender Registry information. Registry notices support lawful public-safety awareness, not vigilantism, housing discrimination, or employment blacklisting.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Wayne County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. It does not create consumer reports, credit reports, or official background checks. Its advertising providers are not presented as services for evaluating applicants, renters, insurance risk, or credit. You may not use site or linked-tool data to:

  • Set insurance terms or assess creditworthiness
  • Approve or reject a housing applicant
  • Make a hiring, firing, or other employment decision
  • Decide eligibility for a permit, license, or public benefit
  • Carry out any additional decision regulated by the FCRA

A lawful regulated check must come from an authorized official process or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA. DCJS access is limited by New York law and is not a public name-search service.

5. No Legal Advice

The material is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed New York lawyer can assess how a warrant, charge, conviction, or record-sealing rule applies to a particular set of facts.

6. No Warranties

All content is supplied “as is.” No promise is made that:

  • A partner’s search results will be complete or correct
  • Every page will be free from defects, bugs, or security weaknesses
  • Access will always be available without interruption
  • Information will be complete, accurate, and current at all times

Records change as charges are filed, amended, dismissed, or sealed. Delays and gaps may occur. No page is an official statement from a court, sheriff, DCJS, or any other public agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to public offices, courts, state portals, legal services, or outside search providers. Those destinations are beyond this site’s control. Their availability, prices, content, and data practices are their responsibility, so review their terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Wayne County Criminal History or its content partners own the site’s text, code, graphics, and logos. Written permission is required before copying, distributing, adapting, or creating derivative material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not responsible for losses arising from use of the site, its information, or any linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold the operator harmless against claims, demands, proceedings, fees, and costs caused by your use of the site or violation of these terms.

11. Governing Law

New York law governs these terms. Any lawsuit tied to use of the site must be brought in a court located in New York. New York FOIL governs requests to public bodies, while Executive Law § 837 restricts DCJS criminal-history dissemination; neither statute makes this private site an official custodian.

12. Changes to These Terms

These conditions may be revised at any time. A revision becomes effective once the new text is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or ended at any time, with or without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one clause is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in force. The affected clause will be narrowed only as far as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be submitted through the Contact page.
