Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another provider may receive it. By continuing to use Wayne County Criminal History, you accept these privacy practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A query entered in a search box is sent to the outside company that supplies that tool. The provider processes the name or location and returns its own results. Wayne County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained so a response can be provided. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server automatically receives basic technical and usage details:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The referring site, when one is supplied
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • The device’s assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Small cookie files and analytics services help measure traffic in aggregate, such as which pages are used most and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a query to the search provider selected by the visitor
  • Maintaining stable, responsive site operation
  • Diagnosing errors and other technical faults
  • Measuring which content is useful and which needs improvement
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Wayne County Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official routes such as local courts, the Wayne County Sheriff, DCJS, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a third-party file or consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. A provider’s own privacy policy controls the information submitted to its tool, including its retention and sharing choices. Review those terms before entering a query because this policy does not govern the partner’s systems.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, sheriff pages, state agencies, legal services, or outside search tools. Once a visitor follows one, the destination’s privacy terms apply. Read them before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may also use their own systems to measure activity across sites and select targeted ads.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages
  • Search partners processing a query submitted to their tool
  • A court or government body acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so an unauthorized access event cannot be ruled out.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. Information identified as coming from a minor will be removed when a valid request is received.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary with a visitor’s location. New York’s Freedom of Information Law governs requests to public agencies, while Executive Law § 837 limits dissemination of state criminal-history data. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government record custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:

  • Request deletion of eligible personal data
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Seek a copy of personal data held about them
  • Object to certain processing where the law provides that choice

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A new version takes effect when it is posted here with an updated date.

Effective date: August 1, 2026
